Boycott the ole ELJay?

If the existing business model was so great, then why was LiveJournal as a company failing? Brad sold it to Six Apart who sold it off as well. No one seems to really be making the money they would hoped off LJ.

I agree killing the free, ad-less accounts probably is not the best course of action. However, I haven't seen the ads, so I don't know how offensive that account might be. So, I wonder how bad they really are?
Firstly, I never said 'the existing business model was so great', hence my suggestion. They have never made the plus account worth getting. The point was to make the features better than the ads, and they never were.

What they have done is taken a shitty business model and made it into a shittier business model, upset a ton of their users and curbed the number of people who might have newly signed up. The fact of the matter is that some people are going to be turned off with the ad-only account option and creation, so yes, they are losing users. However way you want to look at it, that's a stupid business decision, and the short term benefits are not outweighed by the backlash of their decision.

Theres a reason why sites like flickr work and LJ doesn't.
And by 'it's owned by Six Apart anyway,' I meant that SA really didn't do much for LJ while they owned it, so being on Vox isn't exactly encouraging. I do know that LJ is in the hands of SUP now.
